About Mountain Laurel Trout Unlimited
The Mountain Laurel Chapter of Trout Unlimited is headquartered in Johnstown, PA and serves Cambria, Somerset & Bedford Counties in Southwestern Pennsylvania. We work with watershed organizations such as the Stonycreek - Conemaugh River Improvement Project (SCRIP) and nonprofit organizations such as the Southern Alleghenies Conservancy. The major problem facing our local chapter is abandoned mine drainage (AMD) from abandoned coal mines. Other non-point source pollution such as uncontrolled storm water runoff and sedimentation is also a problem in MLTU's service area. Literally dozens of streams and rivers in Cambria & Somerset Counties have been rendered unfishable, unswimable, undrinkable and fit for nothing more than a storm sewer system for most of the 20th century. We are working very hard to remediate these problems and we invite you to be a part of our growing support base.
